Chromosome

Chromosomes are structures in the cells that contain the genes. A normal human cell has 46 chromosomes (23 pairs). A missing or extra chromosome causes many abnormalities in the way an unborn baby develops, and almost always leads to intellectual and developmental disabilities and serious physical birth defects.
