Familial hyperinsulinism (FHI) is an inherited disease characterized by hypoglycemia due to unregulated release of insulin from cells in the pancreas. Symptoms are the result of increased levels of insulin in the blood, which causes decreased blood sugar levels (or hypoglycemia).
